The trauma and burn team consists of surgeons specially qualified in the treatment of adult multisystem trauma and burn care, critical care specialists, and a full complement of highly trained nursing and technological personnel. This team, led by a 24-hour inhouse attending surgeon, has immediate access to all hospital facilities at all times.
The UPMC Mercy Trauma and Burn Centers are supported by a team of orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, as well as a full complement of pediatric specialists for our pediatric burn patients. Psychiatrists, psychologists, pastoral care personnel, and social workers attend to the emotional, spiritual, and social needs of trauma and burn patients and their families.
Progressive needs of trauma and burn patients are met by a full service rehabilitation team consisting of physicians who specialize in rehabilitation medicine, physical and occupational therapists, and speech, music, and recreational therapy programs.
Mercy Trauma and Burn Centers, in collaboration with the Office of Pre-Hospital Services, offers numerous educational programs in trauma and burn care. These programs are designed to meet the specific needs of physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital personnel.
