As vice president of medical affairs and surgical director, quality and patient safety, for Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Dr. Bret DeLone is responsible for data-driven medical quality initiatives, surgical quality and overall appropriateness of care.
Prior to Penn State Health acquiring Geisinger Holy Spirit, DeLone served as chief medical officer and interim trauma medical director, where he helped establish the hospital as a Level II trauma center.
A board-certified general surgeon, DeLone has expertise in minimally invasive and advanced robotic surgery, with broad experience in abdominal wall hernias, gastrointestinal surgery and trauma care of critically injured patients.
As a board member and the immediate past president of Operation Medical, DeLone has participated in multiple medical mission trips to Asia, Africa and Central America. DeLone was the host of “Medical Matters,” a talk radio program on NewsRadio WHP 580. He is a former member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine and the Pennsylvania Medical Political Action Committee.
DeLone attended Haverford College, earned his medical degree from Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and completed his residency at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y., before joining Kunkel Surgical Group.
Dr. DeLone represents the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) on the PTSF Board of Directors.
