The accomplishments of UPMC Presbyterian Trauma Program contribute to the overall success of UPMC in its continued pursuit of inventing new models of accountable, cost effective patient centered care. The UPMC Presbyterian Trauma Program is an accredited Adult Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center and is a large academic medical center serving as a regional quaternary center.  The Trauma Program opened in 1986 is proud to have celebrated its 30th anniversary as a Level I Trauma Center. The UPMC Presbyterian Trauma Program is one of the institution’s flagship programs and continues to be one of the leaders within the UPMC organization for patient and family centered care.  We continually strive for excellence in trauma care and the ideal patient and family experience.  STAT MedEvac, our aeromedical program, has 14 base sites to provide air medical response throughout our region, and provides rapid transport and the latest innovations in critical care to our trauma patients. Our Acute Care Surgery Fellowship is accredited by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, only the third such program to be approved. The goals of the programs are to teach the clinical knowledge and technical skills of critical care, trauma and acute care surgery that will enable each fellow to become a confident critical care practitioner, administrator, and educator. UPMC Presbyterian has been the recipient of many National Institute of Health (NIH) and the United States Department of Defense funded grants. The UPMC Presbyterian Trauma Program continues to be a leader regionally, nationally, and internationally in trauma care. Annually we provide trauma care for approximately 5,000 patients each year, and we are proud and honored to have served over 100,000 Trauma patients over our 30-year history.
