Matthew Mowry, MSN, RN, TCRN, CEN, NE-BC, joined the PTSF in October 2023 as an Accreditation Specialist. Matt will support hospitals in their pursuit of trauma center accreditation, and he will participate in site survey activities. Most recently, Matt was a Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator at AHN Allegheny General Hospital located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He held that position for over 21 years. In addition, Matt served as a PTSF Site Surveyor for the last seven years.
Matt received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He began his career in emergency nursing, working in community, urban, and Level I Trauma Center Emergency Departments. During that time, he also spent ten years as a Naval Reserve Hospital Corpsman and as an Air Force Reserve Flight Nurse. Matt has delivered many presentations both nationally and internationally on Geriatric Trauma, Trauma Resuscitation, and Performance Improvement. Matt has several publications to his credit, including a case study, book chapters on trauma nursing, and the evolution of trauma performance improvement. He also served on the board of the Panamerican Trauma Society and numerous committees with the PTSF. While a member of the American College of Surgeon’s PIPS Committee, he piloted studies on mortality and taxonomy, and assisted with edits to the national trauma center standards. Currently, Matt is a part-time faculty member at Robert Morris University where he teaches advanced healthcare informatics.
