Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Jefferson) has been an officially designated Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center for the past 23 years. It serves the Center City community and is a referral center for the multiple suburban communities and Level 2 trauma centers outside of Center City Philadelphia. In addition, Jefferson has been a federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center for the past 34 years. Jefferson is one of only 18 hospitals in the United States that holds both distinctive designations. In addition, Jefferson is a designated Hand Center as well as a center of excellence for Orthopedics. The Trauma Center team conducts research and continuing education programs for health professionals in trauma care. Experienced trauma surgeons work closely with emergency medicine specialists to provide state-of-the-science operative care for critical patients with all types of injuries. The Trauma Center emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach—with trauma surgeons, orthopedists, physiatrists, and neurosurgeons—working closely as a Trauma team to help provide multidisciplinary care.
