Since 1993, the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, a level I pediatric trauma center, has been accredited by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation as the only Pediatric Trauma Center in south central Pennsylvania. This accreditation recognizes the expertise in managing all childhood injuries ranging minor injuries treated in the Emergency Department to life-threatening injuries treated in the Pediatric ICU. Pediatric surgical and medical specialists are available 24 hours a day to render immediate treatment to injured children. We care for thousands of injured children annually in the emergency department with more than 750 of these children requiring hospital admission.

The Pediatric Trauma Program at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital includes a multidisciplinary team with the skills and resources to care for injured infants, children, and teens (under 18 years of age) from prehospital through rehabilitation.  The program is equally committed to preventing childhood injury through the Injury Prevention Program.
