Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is the only hospital in western Pennsylvania devoted solely to the care of infants and children and has been a continuously level I accredited trauma program for over 25 years. Children’s Hospital has been in its new 10-acre home in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood since May 2009. This beautiful new facility achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification from the United States Green Building Council and provides a family friendly state-of-the-art facility with breakthrough technology and an intelligent design to maximize environmental efficiency and quality patient care. The new hospital has nine floors of inpatient and outpatient care areas, with 296 licensed beds including 79 critical care beds, a 41-bed Emergency Department, and 13 operating suites, six of which are equipped with advanced minimally invasive equipment. Highlights of the new hospital for the Trauma Program include a 64-slice multi-detector CT scanner within the Emergency Department, overhead x-ray in the trauma bays, and a separate ambulance entrance just steps from the trauma bays. The new campus underscores the hospital’s 125-year commitment to providing comprehensive primary and specialty care to the region’s sick and injured children.
